I have to admit, I was hesitant to buy this dress because it was only featured in a small clip, but I don’t regret the purchase in the slightest. This dress looks a lot more gorgeous in real life than it does in photos. I can’t really explain why that is, but a camera can’t really capture the actual colour of it, especially if the picture was taken with a phone. The photos I’ve taken with my DSLR camera look almost realistic, but the colours are just a lot more gorgeous. It’s a unique piece of clothing that every serious Clara cosplayer should consider because it’s a lovely item.

Yumi Technicolor Dress – Sizing and Materials

For some reason, this dress is a lot more common in bigger sizes. The first one I owned was a UK14 which was undoubtedly too big for me, but I was surprised that it didn’t look like a potato sack as I had expected it would. I have since sized down to a UK10 and being a size UK6-8 in dresses, I have to say that it runs small. The UK10 fits me perfectly. So don’t be afraid to size up with this one. Even if it’s a little big, it’s worn with a belt and has an elastic waist, so there is some leeway.

The fabric has a strange feel to it that I can’t quite explain. I suppose you either like it or you don’t, but it feels a bit like a rough kind of velvet. It is made of 95% polyester and 5% elastane. The lining is 100% polyester. Also, did I mention the colour looks really nice?

It’s hard to really give a price range on this one because I haven’t seen that many around. Yumi is neither cheap nor especially expensive, but the ones I’ve seen, sold by cosplayers and cosplay muggles, were between £20 and £50. I bought mine second-hand from a cosplay muggle, so it was slightly cheaper than the first one.

I’m a little sad that we had such a nasty summer last year because I would have loved to wear Clara Oswald’s Yumi Technicolor Dress out and about, but eh, there’s always next summer. Or maybe the Doctor will abduct me and take me to a nice beach?
